Imploding the New Haven Veterans Coliseum was one of the largest revitalization projects that the City of New Haven, CT had undertaken in 30 years. The scale of this project consisted of two entire city blocks.
The demolition removed the 11,000 seat arena and massive steel tower parking garage. It started with salvage for the owner, asbestos abatement and then the remediation, removal, cleaning and disposal of underground storage tanks.
Selective demolition at this project included the removal of large sections of the above ground parking concrete deck and steel to lessen the impact on vital underground utilities during the implosion.
